Reading Queue: June

The Reading QueueHi friends!

What month is it?! June you say?! Oh my gosh! June is going to be crazy. First, my maternity leave is over and I started back at work today for one week until the end of the school year (luckily I have a husband with a flexible schedule), I’m still learning how to be a mother to a now three month old, and we’re moving to the UK. Yup! That’s right friends! We’re packing up our little family and moving across “the pond” to Manchester, England for my husband’s job! So yeah, there’s a lot going on!

Let’s talk about my June Reading Queue in the midst of all this crazy, but exciting, life stuff! Remember that I co-host this monthly event with Jessica at Books A True Story, so be sure to visit her blog (and her Reading Queue) too!

How I Did Last Month

May was a better reading month than April was. Two were continuations in series that I love and one was a new title by one of my favorite authors so I devoured these three books pretty quickly!

My June Reading Queue

I have absolutely no idea how the month of June is going to be on the reading front. Moving to a new country is going to take up a lot of time, and although I am preparing myself mentally for less time to read I’m adding six books to this month’s queue!

The Reading QueueWell hi there!

What is the Reading Queue?  Well, the Reading Queue is a monthly meme, hosted by Book Tasty (hiya!) and Books: A true story , where we share our reading plans for the month. You can hop to other blogs and see what others are reading and maybe find someone reading the same thing as you! Or you can ask for people to vote on what you should read next if you can’t decide. Please feel free to contact me in the comments if you’d like to join and/or if you have questions!

Top Ten Tuesday: 2014 Debuts that Look Yummy

Well, hello there!

It’s time again for Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by the Broke and Bookish)! This week’s theme is Young Adult or Middle Grades debuts of 2014 that I want to read the most. I really enjoy reading debuts each year because it gives me a chance to get to know some authors that might not get as much attention as others simply because they’re new to the YA/MG scene.

As usual, there are some really good-looking debuts scheduled to release this year! I’ve looked long and hard at the debut list and, of course, some (more than others) just seem like they’d be right up my alley!

Oh yeah. I chose twelve this week, not ten, because I do what I want, when I want! hahaha

Waiting on Wednesday: Defy

Yes, it is my birthday! Yay! Happy Birthday to me!

Since my husband had to be out of a town for a few days we’re waiting to celebrate with a little shin-dig on Friday!

It is still Wednesday though and with that comes another edition of Waiting on Wednesday (hosted by Breaking the Spine)! This week I’m waiting on Defy by Sara B. Larson.

Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king’s army, Defy by Sara B. LarsonAlex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince’s guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can’t prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.

The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she’s sworn to protect?

I am pretty much always in the mood for a good fantasy and Defy sounds like it has the potential to be a fun read! It sounds a little like a mix between The Cadet of Tildor (Alex Lidell)and The False Prince  (Jennifer A. Nielsen), both of which I enjoyed so hopefully that is a good omen! We’ll have to wait until January 2014 to find out though!
