Top Ten Tuesday: Creepiest Covers

Hello and Happy Halloween week!

To celebrate Halloween this week’s Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by The Broke and Bookish) theme is focused on the creepiest YA book covers.

We do need to acknowledge that creepy is in the eye of the beholder. My personal creepy tolerance is pretty darn low and I get freaked out easily. Thus, I tend to stay away from horror and scary stuff in general. I think it’s because I have a great imagination and once I picture a creepy image in my mind its like the snowball effect and the image gets scarier and scarier and scarier. So yeah, I shy away from scary.

So, what YA book covers haunt my dreams? I’ll show you but you may need to hold my hand!

This reminds me of one of the images shown during the X Files theme song.

Seriously. What the heck.

I’m sure this wouldn’t freak me out as much if it wasn’t colored this way. But it is and it does.

Anyone else think of that awful horrible horrifying scene in The Sixth Sense?

This screaming demon lady makes me want to curl up into a ball and weep.

No more please. PLEASE! This one was in my book fair one year and I actually turned it over because it kept staring at me.

This cover has major creep factor, which is why I’d rather watch the cheesy movie than read the book!

Okay, so if these covers scared you I apologize but welcome to my world! Are there any covers that just creep you out beyond belief?  Feel free to share in the comments section below! :)

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I’ll Never Read because I’m a Wimp

Hello there everyone!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by those fine bloggers over at The Broke and Bookish!

So, this week’s official theme is Top Ten books to put you in the Halloween mood. That is a great theme, but I don’t usually do creepy books, so I’m calling this like it is.  I’ll probably never read any of these titles because I’m a HUGE wimp when it comes to scary.  This still amazes me because as a teenager in the mid-90s I used to devour R.L. Stein’s Fear Street books like they were covered in chocolate. Seriously.  So, I guess I’ve gotten wimpier in my old age.

These are all books that I have heard awesome things about, so I assume they’re good reads, but I’m too much of a scaredy-cat!

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare BlakeAnna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

I don’t care what this book is about.  I’ve heard it’s awesome.  But that title already has me way creeped out! I don’t want to be dressed in blood and I don’t know if Anna does either.

The Murmurings by Carly Anne WestThe Murmurings by Carly Anne West

This cover is freaky.  I don’t like super close up faces on covers…they creep me out.  This cover, plus the titles, plus the summary….Sounds really, really scary!

Bad Girls Don't Die by Kate AlenderBad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender

This cover makes me think of the Sixth Sense.  My students  LOVE this series, but I just can’t bring myself to see what’s under that curtain.

Starters by Lissa PriceStarters by Lissa Price

This book isn’t even categorized as horror, I think it’s dystopian.  I don’t even care, I can’t look at this super scary cover! It’s so disturbing! Again, I’ve heard it’s good though!

The Devouring by Simon HoltThe Devouring by Simon Holt

This one is about evil demonic beings that inhabit humans.  It sounds super intriguing, but it also sounds super scary!

The Name of the Star by Maureen JohnsonThe Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

Okay, so I probably will read this one.  I like Maureen Johnson’s books and I bought it at my school book fair, so I’ll try to read it even though I’m pretty sure it’s going to scare me.

Ten by Gretchen McNeilTen by Gretchen McNeil

Yeah, I’ll probably read this one too.  It sounds very Agatha Christie, which I love, so even though it’ll probably freak the poop out of me, I’m most likely going to go for it!

The Replacement by Brenna YovanoffThe Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

I just know this book will give me nightmares. For reals.

Dust and Decay by Jonathan MayberryDust and Decay by Jonathan Maberry

The cover. Do I have to say more?

Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie RyanForest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

I want to read this book so bad.  I even promised I would last year…I didn’t.  And it’s because I’m too afraid.

So there you have it.  These are all books that I’ve heard good things about, but am scared to read because I’m a humongous wimp when it comes to all things creepy.  Have you read any of these?  Are there some I need to just buck-up and read?
