Just Finished: Born Wicked

Summer vacation is completely fabulous! I get to spend time with my husband and friends and do whatever I want because I don’t have to be at work! LOVE IT!!

So, with all this free time I’ve been reading (a lot!). Today I finished reading Born Wicked the first book in Jessica Spotswood’s Cahill Witch Chronicles. I really really liked this book a lot and my review will come soon!

Tasty Treats (1)

A few weeks ago I decided not to participate in the In My Mailbox meme.  Not out of protest but out of personal conviction regarding my obsessive blogger behavior.  You can read that post in full here.

So, while I will no longer be writing a weekly post about what books I received, I will be posting about this randomly…or better yet, whenever I feel like it! :)  The posts will be called Tasty Treats.  I tend to view all books as tasty treats just waiting to be devoured, so why not just call it that?!

Now let me just tell you that May was a busy month for my digital mailbox as well as the physical one.  I somehow managed to win like three giveaways and received some really exciting books from authors and publishers!  I’ve already posted about some of the books I got this month here. So, today I am showing off  the second group of tasty treats I got during May!

Insurgent by Veronica RothFirst let me show off an audiobook I received from Harper Audio- Insurgent by Veronica Roth!  I just finished it yesterday in the car and am already ready for the third book in the series! It was sooo good! Thanks to Harper Audio!

Small Medium at Large by Joanne Levy

A huge thanks to author Joanne Levy for sending me a review copy of her debut novel Small Medium at Large and the book marks (not shown).  I can’t wait to share them with my students!

Birthmarked and Born Wicked

Also, thanks to Kare at Ex Libris for the two books I won in one of her recent giveaways!  Above you see Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien and Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood.  Now I have two copies of Born Wicked- one of which will go to my school library.

Lexapros and Cons and Lost in the River of Grass

Also, I snagged a copy of Lost in the River of Grass by Giny Rorby from my Media Center since it’s on the Sunshine State list this year.   And finally, a big thanks to Heidi at YA Bibliophile for Lexapros and Cons by Aaron Karo, which I won in one of her recent giveaways!

You can see I got some really rad looking books over the past few weeks!  I can’t wait to get started on them and it’s going to be soon because school is almost out for the summer! YAY!

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books in My To Read Stack

Welcome back everyone!

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event held by the fine folks over at The Broke and Bookish. The meme is intended to provide a way for bloggers (specifically book bloggers) to get to know each other better.

They always have a set theme to base our weekly post on, but sometimes the official theme and I don’t click. It seems its been a lot like that recently, and this week I am also choosing my own theme because I just don’t click with the one the chose. Although, I will say that if I had to pick YA authors to compete on a Reality Show I’d go with Maureen Johnson on Survivor, because I feel like she has just the right amount of crazy to dominate everyone. :P

So, this week’s Book Tasty Top Ten is Books in my To Read Stack! Some have taken up residence in this stack for a few months now, while others just recently found themselves there. They all look soooo good, and they will all get read at some point, but for now, here they are!

In My Mailbox (12)

In My MailboxHello and Happy Sunday!

Every Sunday I bring you an In My Mailbox post, which is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren.  In My Mailbox is a fun way for bloggers to socialize and network their blogs, it’s also a great way to share the books they acquired during the week.

So let’s get to my mailbox!

Its been a crazy busy week in my household!  Between my school PTSA meeting, running errands,  our Small Group, the Rehearsal Dinner and Ceremony/Reception for the wedding my husband was in (best man) we were out almost every night! Amidst the crazy schedule that was this past week I did manage to get some reading time in and I also got some fun things in my mailbox!

On Wednesday night my husband and I were out running errands that took us to a bookstore where I just had to buy two books I’ve been craving for a while now. One, is a debut by Jessica Spotswood, called Born Wicked, which I wasn’t too interested until I saw the trailer (which you can watch here) and loved it!   The other is the fifth and newest book in Ally Carter’s awesome Gallagher Girls series, Out of Sight, Out of Time. I love the feel of brand new book jackets!  Plus I think both of these covers are completely lovely!

Born Wicked and Out of Sight Out of TimeBooks I bought

-Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter

-Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

In the middle of a tiring (but good) busy week, after a long and exhausting day at work I came home to find a nice little package waiting for me! YAY!!

Turns out, the package was from MacMillan Audio, who sent me a review copy of the audio version of Death Cloud, the first book in Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes series! The summary sounds super exciting with a fourteen year old Sherlock Holmes investigating two possible murders. I can’t wait to get to this one, so I’m sending out a HUGE THANK YOU to MacMillan Audio for being so generous!

Books I received

-Young Sherlock Holmes #1: Death Cloud by Andrew Lane

I’m pretty happy with all my new books to read and listen to. They should keep me busy or a while now!

What did you get in your mailbox this week?

Book Trailer of the Week: Born Wicked

Ahhhh!  Sometimes I see a book trailer that just does its job and makes me want to read the book immediately.  This one does it.

I’m a pretty easy target, I must admit.  Book Trailer Makers you need to know that in order to make me want to read your book right away here are the things I need:

1. Historical period costume.  It really doesn’t matter too much which period the costumes are from (as long as it’s not like cavemen times or something like that.  Sorry animal pelts don’t do it for me!), just as long as they’re there.

2. A cute boy.  Again. Yup.  Of course, he has to be dressed correctly (see #1)

Yeah…that’s pretty much all it takes.

Like I said, I’m a pretty easy target.  Don’t judge. Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

So, which book trailer did I just watch (literally 30 seconds ago), that got me so excited to visit the bookstore or library?

That book is Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood.  Its like she can read the inner workings of my mind!  This book trailer made me change my mind from thinking, “Oh that’s just another supernatural fiction book” to “Oh. My. Gosh. I. Must. Read. It.”

Here it is, although I warn those who get weak in the knees from the two things I listed above, you’re going to want to run out and get this one!
