Movie Alert: The Giver Movie Trailer

Hi guys!

Well,  a lot has been happening in the world of YA books turned to films! We have Divergent releasing on Friday (I’m going to try to go see it on Sunday afternoon!) and The Maze Runner trailer dropped two nights ago! I have to say that I’m a little nervous about Divergent but have high expectations for The Maze Runner movie!

Well, I was on Twitter tonight and was reminded about the film adaptation of The Giver by Lois Lowry. I had forgotten all about it! It wasn’t until a few years ago that I finally read The Giver, but when I finally did it was clear why it is considered such a classic. So, here’s the trailer!

I was surprised to see Katie Holmes so that’s interesting. Also, it’s not in black and white….I feel like it should be, but there is still hope…hopefully?! I just wonder how they’re going to get across all the…”giving”…I don’t want to be a spoiler! I must say that as a school librarian, I’m just excited whenever a YA book to film happens because my circulation goes up, which just means that more students are reading! YAY!

So, what do you think about the trailer?!

Cover Reveal: Sisters’ Fate by Jessica Spotswood

I know we’re not supposed to judge books based on their covers, but sometimes I totally do just that!

Are you ready for the cover for Sisters’ Fate by Jessica Spotswood?!

Okay, so this isn’t really breaking news because author Jessica Spotswood recently shared the cover for the third book in her Cahill Chronicles trilogy on her own blog, but I’m so in love with this cover I had to share it too!

Here it is!

Sisters' Fate by Jessica SpotswoodGAH!! I completely love it! It is seriously my favorite in the series, when we’re talking about the new covers (the original Born Wicked cover was absolutely gorgeous!). GAH! In this one we get to see all three Cahill sisters and that completely fierce expression on Cate’s face is just awesome. She looks like she is ready to kick some major Brotherhood butt.

If you haven’t seen the covers for the other two books in the series here you go:

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood

Jessica Spotswood also announced that Sisters’ Fate wouldn’t be released until August 14, 2014. Yup. 2014.

We have SO LONG to wait! I’ll just spend the next year gazing at the gorgeous cover wishing it into existence!

What do you think of this new cover? Is it your favorite in the series?

Why should the YA2U Team come to
your hometown?
Why not join in the fun today and share with others about this program and your hometown. The more votes your town gets, the closer you are to having your very own personal tour stop! Vote for YOUR town here!

Divergent Nation: I Joined Team Amity!

Team AmityIn case you hadn’t heard the sequel to Veronica Roth’s dystopian Divergent, called Insurgent, will be released on May 1!

YAY!!! I’m so excited about this and have been waiting patiently for this one to come out!

I read Divergent, loved it (seriously LOVED IT) and reviewed it here. If you know nothing about Divergent, then check out the review to learn more about the five factions and basically what exactly this is that I’m talking about. :)

Insurgent by Veronica RothWell, here’s what Good Reads has to say about Insurgent.

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

You can also watch the book trailer for Insurgent here.
Sounds pretty awesome huh?!  Well, to help promote the release of Insurgent, Harper Teen has selected book bloggers around the country to lead each of the five factions.  I was not one of the original bloggers chosen to lead, but I did choose to join Team Amity!

The Amity faction is described as follows:

AMITY: 1. friendship; peaceful harmony.
2. mutual understanding and a peaceful relationship, especially between nations; peace; accord.
3. cordiality
So basically, this faction values peace, kindness and beauty above all else.
Why would I decide to choose Team Amity?  Well lets instead talk about why you should join the great faction that is Team Amity.
  • If you love music, art, and even reading fiction, you belong on Team Amity. We’re not just about peace, we’re also about enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
  • Our faction believes in common consent, and reaching decisions that everyone can agree on.
  • We are self-sustaining and have GREAT food.
  • And, of course, Four thinks we are beautiful.

If you loved Divergent and want to be a part of the Divergent Nation, then go ahead and join Team Amity!  We’d love to have you.  You can find out more about joining here.

And you can check out the current Amity Faction News here!

Also, if you join you can enter some exciting giveaways! Like the one being held at Emily’s Reading Room or here Hippies, Beauty, and Books!

And remember Insurgent by Veronica Roth is due on May 1, 2012!

Recommended Reading

Recently, author Sara Zarr gave Christianity Today a list of her Top 5  Books for Young Adults.  Sara has written three novels, Story of a Girl (2007), Sweethearts (2008), Once Was Lost (2009), and has a new novel, How to Save a Life, which came out this past October.  I haven’t read any of her works, but have heard very good things.

So, anytime an author makes reading recommendations I think its important to listen, because they pretty much know what they’re talking about. So to read Sara Zarr’s list of her Top 5 Books for Young Adults, click on the link HERE.
